面试英语实况范例:英文编辑

 安利公司欲招聘一名英文编辑,他们要求应聘者寄上自传。广东科技出版社编辑黎先生获准和该公司经理约翰-查理先生面谈。

I: Nice to meet you, Mr. Li. From reading over your autobiography, I assume your English is excellent. There is not any spelling and grammar mistake in it. The structure is logical and the use of words is idiomatic.

L: It's very kind of you to say so, but I think my English is far from perfect. I still have much to learn.

I: When you studied English at Beijing Broadcasting College, did you learn anything about editing in English?

L: Certainly. The Department of Foreign Languages of Beijing Broadcasting College offers a course in English editing, as some of its graduates are assigned to "Radio Beijing" and "China Daily" as editors each year. I learned a lot from this course. As graduation practice, I worked as an assistant editor for "China Daily" in English for one month.

I: Why weren't you assigned to "Radio Beijing" or "China Daily" as an editor upon your graduation?

L: Well, I thought working as an editor must learn Chinese well in addition to a good command of English. So I decided to work on Chinese for my second bachelor's degree at Fudan University in Shanghai.

I: I see. Now please tell me something about your achievements at Guangdong Scientific and Technical Press.

L: O. K. I have been working there as an editor for nearly three years. I have edited twenty-one scientific and technical books- nearly five million words in terms of Chinese characters. Two of them respectively won the first-class reward and the second-class reward of national excellent books.

I: Do you have any part-time work experience?

L: Yes. In my spare time I usually do some translation from English into Chinese or vice versa for several comercial organizations. Furthermore, I've edited a few bilingual catalogs in Chinese and English for two Sino-foreign joint ventures.

I: Wonderful. Why are you interested in this company?

L: I know yours is the first successful company in the world in direct sales of its products with a large sales volume and a great profit margin. Your head office is in the U. S. A and there are a lot of subsidiary companies all over the world. I think I'll have a bright future working with this company. Besides, I enjoy editing catalogs in Chinese and English.

I: Do you know what goods this company mainly deals in?

L: Yes, this company mainly deals in skincare products, kitchen utensils, and other daily necessities.

I: Well, I'm fully convinced by your educational background and professional experience that you are the right person for the bilingual editorial position at this company. How much do you expect to get a month if we hire you?

L: At present, my monthly salary plus the extra money from my part-time work amounts to five thousand yuan. I should not, of course, make a change for less. Could you provide me with a monthly salary of seven thousand five hundred yuan.

I: Well, I don't think we can give you that much as the starting salary. We'll be able to offer you a commencing salary of six thousand with some fringle benefits. But your salary will be raised after one year. Is that acceptable to you?

L: Such being the case. I'll be happy to accept it.

I: Good. We'll send you a certificate of employment in one or two days. Can you start your work here next month?

L: No problem.

I: It's our pleasure to have you here, Mr. Li. See you later.

L: See you next month, sir.
